In this captivating Christmas bedtime story, Jim’s journey of hope and unexpected blessings will delight and inspire. As he faces the challenges of a cold winter with little to offer, a miraculous visit transforms his Christmas into a celebration of joy and wonder.
The day before Christmas Eve, the streets were blanketed in white snow and filled with the pleasant aroma of food and Christmas gingerbread. Children were building snowmen and people were singing carols. Jim’s eyes sparkled at the sight of the large Christmas tree in the town square, but he quickly felt sad remembering that his home wouldn’t have much for the holidays.
They wouldn’t even have anything to eat if the old baker on the street hadn’t taken pity on him and his mother. He was heading home, carrying a warm loaf of bread and eggs in a cloth bag given to him by the baker. A few years ago, Jim’s father had passed away, and since then, life hadn’t been easy for the family. Moreover, his mother had also fallen seriously ill.
Jim was glad to be home. It was cold outside, and his coat wasn’t very warm. He hung it in the hallway and went to his mother’s room. Initially, he just opened the door so as not to wake her, but when he noticed her eyes staring out the window, he entered.
„Hi, Mom. I went to the baker’s and got some bread. I’ll cut you a slice,” Jim said joyfully to his mother, but she stroked his raven hair and said:
„Maybe later, Jim. Go to bed. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve.”
Jim gave his mother a kiss on the cheek and went to his bed. He knew it was no use persuading his mother to eat when she didn’t intend to. So both of them fell asleep, thinking of each other. His mother wanted Jim to have a nice Christmas, like other children, but due to her illness, she couldn’t do anything. And Jim? He sat at a window that he had slightly opened and looked out at the stars. Each time he saw their glow, hope was kindled within him. Hope that his mother would recover and that their life would improve.
„I wish everything could be like it used to be. If only my mom could get well,” he murmured, and after those words, there was a rustling at the window. Suddenly, an angel appeared in his window, no bigger than him. Its wings shimmered slightly in the moonlight and looked like the most delicate feather dust. Jim, however, recoiled in fright and held his hands up defensively.
„Who are you?” he asked, looking up at the angel fluttering its wings.
„I am a Christmas angel. There are only a few of us, and we can grant only one Christmas wish each year,” the angel explained, and Jim watched it with wide-open eyes.
„But why have you come to me?” he asked, and the little angel whistled through his hair.
„You are a boy with a very good and pure heart, Jim. You deserve happiness,” the Angel smiled at the boy, who still couldn’t believe this was real. „I heard your wish and will grant it. Now go to bed, or it won’t come true,” the angel said, and Jim obediently lay under the covers and quickly fell asleep.
In the morning, he was awakened by light piercing through his window. He sat up in bed and rubbed his eyes. He remembered the night and his angel. Shaking his head, assuming he had lost his senses, he went to the kitchen. There, he couldn’t believe his eyes. The table was set with food, a fire burned in their fireplace, and a decorated Christmas tree stood nearby.
„What happened here?” he thought, and a small tear fell from his eye. He looked at his mother, who was standing on her feet after months, and a blush also appeared on her cheeks.
„Mom!” he exclaimed joyfully and hugged her.
„Jim, where did this come from?” his mother asked in surprise.
„It was an angel, Mom, a real angel. Do you believe me?” He looked at her with his big eyes, and she nodded and patted her son.
„Merry Christmas, my boy.”
„Merry Christmas, Mom,” Jim said joyfully, and from that day on, he thanked the angel every day for healing his mother.
